DESCRIPTION

The Service Manager will be responsible for Service customer interface and selling, assisting with employee development, key operational duties, safety, financial performance, and planning and scheduling. A background or experience in the field of heavy equipment is highly desired.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Responsible for the overall financial performance that includes budgets and capital expenditures.
  2. Provide leadership direction to the entire service department.  Communicate and influence direct reports effectively to develop good working relationships and teamwork.
  3. Communicate understanding and support of organizational goals.  Interact effectively with individuals and groups throughout the company.  Develop and maintain working relationships with departments and sister business units in order to improve the overall company performance.    
  4. Align, partner, and collaborate with assigned HR representative to proactively manage staffing, workforce development, employee communication, employee relations and support / develop business unit objectives.
  5. Maintain customer satisfaction with timely and accurate communication.
  6. Plan work schedule to meet work order commitments and assigns work to technicians and monitors progress.
  7. Provide decision-making support to technicians in the analysis and resolution of service/parts problems. Effectively analyze and proactively seek out all options to provide the best solution for the customers and the company. Elevate customer issues to General Manager of Service when appropriate.
  8. Responsible and accountable for maintaining and promoting a safe work environment.  Promote Safety First culture.  Complete Employee Injury Report promptly and accurately.
  9. Must be able to work on occasional weekends.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B.A or B.S) from a four-year college or university required. 3 years of relevant work history preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, procedures, and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic math skills including computing rates, ratios, averages, fractions, and percentages. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.   

REASONING ABILITY

Demonstrate critical thinking in their ability to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to develop routine protocols as well as identify when the routines do not apply in a specific situation and handle exceptions as needed. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver's license and good driving record.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages multiple employees in the Service Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

The employee must have the ability to reach and use the arms within a full range of motion in order to retrieve stocked parts. The employee must have the ability to endure prolonged stooping, kneeling, crouching, and squatting while performing mechanical operations. The employee must be able to exert push/pull forces with the arms in order to use various wrenches and tools. The employee must be able to endure prolonged forward and overhead arm positions while performing mechanical operations. The employee must be able to use the hands to grasp hand tools and parts. The employee must have the ability to climb onto and operate equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
